Several researchers have studied the effects of listening to music before going to bed on people of different ages. And it was found that this had a positive effect on children, young people, and even those who are elderly.
How it works
Music helps us relax and reduces our stress levels. One study used sedative music with a tempo of 60-80 beats per minute and found out that after listening, heart rates became lower and the amount of breaths per minute reduced.
One special track
Sound therapists together with Marconi Union created a special song to help people relax. “Weightless” has a steady 60 beat tempo and it ends with a 50 beat tempo. It’s said to be even more relaxing than a massage.
Which songs to choose
Scientists tested “Weightless” and other relaxing tracks. And here is a list of 10 songs that reduced stress the most.
- Marconi Union — Weightless
- Airstream — Electra
- DJ Shah — Mellomaniac (Chill Out Mix)
- Enya — Watermark
- Coldplay — Strawberry Swing
- Barcelona — Please Don’t Go
- All Saints — Pure Shores
- Adele — Someone Like You
- Mozart — Canzonetta Sull’aria
- Café Del Mar — We Can Fly
Of course, you can make your bedtime list bigger and add songs that you consider relaxing. Just remember the rule about the tempo and stick to calming tracks.
